FAQs
Does having an implant placed hurt?
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you won't feel the procedure itself, most people say it's more comfortable than they expected, and comparable to having a tooth out. Afterwards there's usually some soreness and swelling for two to three days, manageable with ordinary painkillers.
How long will I be without a tooth?
In most cases a temporary tooth can be fitted while your implant heals, so you're rarely left with a visible gap for long.
How long do dental implants last?
With proper care and maintenance, implants can last 15 years or more, and often for life.
Are dental implants available on the NHS?
Dental implants are a private treatment and are not routinely available on the NHS.
I've been told I don't have enough bone. Can I still have one?
Often, yes. A bone graft can build up the area first, after which an implant may still be possible. We'll assess this with a CBCT scan.
Can I have implants if I've worn dentures for years?
In many cases, yes, though bone levels may need checking first, as long-term denture wear can reduce jawbone volume over time.
How do I look after an implant?
Implants are cared for much like natural teeth, with regular brushing, flossing and hygiene visits to keep the surrounding gum healthy.
